Garlic

(Allium Sativum)
Probably of Central Asian origin, garlic is sold all year round in heads but is usually used in small amounts, 1-2 cloves at a time. To peel easily, first press the cloves under the flat side of a knife. Garlic cloves can be planted and their pungent leaves used in salads, garnishes, and hors d'oeuvres. Garlic can be dried and ground into flakes or a powder.
